When I Was a Bird and You Were a Worm

When I was a bird and you were a worm
I tasted you. I know you. You have been inside me
I think that if we keep attached to my back
I’ll have to write this poem for a long time
Have I met you before in some kind of Buddhist pre-history?
In another form, with another mouth
Did you in turn swoop down and pick me up from the mundane?
And take me to experience the sky
Did I nurture your young and provide your memories?
Did I keep you aflight so you could better enjoy the sky above?
